At Arabana Aboriginal Corporation (AAC), we couldn’t be prouder of our Arabana Rangers. Last week, they had the incredible opportunity to be keynote speakers at the Water Research Australia (WaterRA) Know Your Neighbour (KYN) event in Adelaide, alongside Professor Melissa Nursey-Bray. The event, hosted in collaboration with the University of South Australia, brought together people from all walks of life to discuss water governance and the protection of our lands and waters.
Our Rangers gave a heartfelt presentation on the challenges we face in relation to water management and the preservation of Kutha (our sacred water sources) on Arabana Country. The topic, “Falling Between the Cracks,” is all about highlighting how important it is to bring everyone together to make sure that our water and land are protected for future generations. It was a chance to show that the wellbeing of our community and the health of our environment go hand in hand.
It was an honour to watch our Rangers take the stage and share their deep knowledge of the land they care for. We’ve always been stewards of Arabana Country, and it’s inspiring to see our young leaders stepping up to continue this important work. This moment was a true reflection of the strength of our community and our commitment to looking after country.
A big thank you to Sophie Murray and the team at UniSA for creating the space for us to share our story. We also want to thank WaterRA for hosting such a fantastic event. The Know Your Neighbour events are a wonderful way to bring everyone together to learn, connect, and grow. It’s all about collaboration and shared knowledge – and we believe that together, we can make a real difference for our communities and the environment.
We’re incredibly proud of our Rangers, and we know they’ll continue to lead the way as we work toward a sustainable future. This is just one step in the journey, but it’s a big one. We look forward to more opportunities to come together, share our knowledge, and keep fighting for the future of Arabana Country.
