Arabana Wadni - Finniss Inga

Updated: Dec 3

Writing and recording of the Finniss inga (At Finniss) wadni (song) was progressed at the Arabana Ngura (camp). Remember we had a chorus and a verse put to guitar music by Nathan May from last year.

Nathan could not make it to this camp and although a guitar was sourced and strung when an interested group got together to work on verses, Thanthi  Syd wanted to record some of what he had also written in an Arabana way. So, this was done.

The song is:

Finnissinga finnissinga

Ari mapirnda

Wangka urangka thiliku

Finnissinga finnisinga

Ari mapirnda

Wangka uranga thiliku

Finnissinga finnissinga

We sit by the fire

With grannies and aunts

As they tell us stories

Of the past

If wind, stars and rain

And how they came to be

When our ancestors gave to us

This country

On the edge of the fire

I imagine I can see

Children’s laughing faces

Looking back at me

When tomorrow we say our goodbyes

It’s with sad hearts and tearful eyes

We look forward with joy and happiness

To when we meet again

Finnissinga finnissinga

Ari mapihnha
